Why set up a Buddhist altar?
The Importance of Setting Up a Buddhist Altar
Master will tell you why the Buddha altar at home is so important. It can help you avoid disasters in a minute! The Buddha altar is actually the temple in your home. If you burn incense every day, a ball of light will appear in your home, like a beam of light…
Bodhisattva came to my home and helped me a lot
You live in such a big house, but you can’t even find such a small place for the Bodhisattva’s altar! Does this mean that you are cultivating your mind well? Of course, your chanting is not effective! …If you have a Buddhist altar at home, the Bodhisattva will say “the lights of thousands of houses” and come to your home, but you can’t make room for the Bodhisattva. The Bodhisattva comes to bless you! …The Bodhisattva has helped us so much! Offering to the Bodhisattva is for your own good!

Burning small houses on a Buddha altar is much more effective
Question: Why do we need to set up a Buddhist altar?
A: If conditions permit, you must set up a Buddhist altar at home and worship Guanyin Bodhisattva. Setting up a Buddhist altar is like inviting the Bodhisattva to your home. With a Buddhist altar, the effects of cultivating your mind and burning the “Scripture Combination” will be much better.
Even if it is simple, you should set up a Buddhist altar.
Female listener: Some people who practice the Guan Yin Method will dream about Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Master, but I have been practicing for eight or nine months and have not had any dreams. Does this mean that I am not practicing well or that I do not have enough affinity?
Master: Not necessarily. If you don’t dream of Guanyin Bodhisattva, then there is a small problem. It means that you are not diligent enough in your practice and are often confused. That is why Master often says that learning Buddhism and cultivating your mind is like boiling water and cannot be stopped for a day.
Female listener: I don’t have a Buddhist altar at home.
Master Lu: This has an impact. Why not set up a Buddhist altar?
Female listener: Because we rent the place outside now, we don’t have a Buddhist altar.
Master Lu: You have to set it up, even if it is small! Without a Buddhist altar, it won’t work! Even if the altar is simple, you can only visualize when the Bodhisattva is there. Can you visualize when the Bodhisattva is not there? Your mind is full of distracting thoughts! Your mind is full of greed, anger, and ignorance! Can you put the Bodhisattva into your heart? If you have a Buddhist altar, you will feel calmer when you look at the Bodhisattva.
Female listener: OK, then can we put the photo of Guanyin Hall there when setting up the Buddhist altar?
Master: You can! Just put some photos, two cups of water, an incense burner, and some fruit if possible. If not, don’t even put any fruit. It’s better than not setting up a Buddhist altar. You must burn incense.
Female listener: Should it be placed next to the window or something?
Master: Just put it anywhere!
Female listener: It doesn’t matter, right?
Master: Well, it does matter if you don’t let it go.

Fellow practitioners share : If you have the conditions, you must set up a Buddhist altar
Here I would like to share with you the changes that occurred after setting up a Buddhist altar. I advise all fellow practitioners to set up a Buddhist altar as long as conditions permit, even if it is a simple one. The effect of chanting sutras is very different with or without a Buddhist altar!
For more than two years, I basically recited the sutras at work and had almost no time to recite when I got home, so I always thought it didn’t matter whether or not to set up a Buddhist altar at home. Besides, my husband and son didn’t believe in it at that time, so for fear that they would create bad karma through their words, I considered it over and over again and decided to postpone it.
Over the past year, I have been reciting the Heart Sutra 21 times to my son every day, praying to the Bodhisattva to help him open his wisdom and believe in Guanyin Bodhisattva. Gradually, he has changed from being disgusted with such topics to actively communicating Buddhist knowledge with me. My husband has also changed. I feel that the time has come to set up a Buddhist altar.
In April this year, I successfully set up the altar. That day, the oil lamp formed a lotus with five petals! After the altar was set up, I could sit in front of it and recite the sutras when I rested at home. The next day, I found that I was not as tired as before when reciting the same sutras. It was very easy. I used to be very tired after reciting 5 sutras a day, but now I don’t feel anything after reciting 6 sutras. In addition, I used to feel dizzy when I recited the sutras for a long time, but this symptom has disappeared now!
Now, whether at work or at home, I can keep reciting the sutras in a much better state than before, and the effect of reciting the sutra combination small house has also been greatly improved. My son used to be sick and refused to go out and always slept. After setting up the altar, he felt uncomfortable for a few days, but later his mental state was obviously much better than before. Now he can keep exercising on his own and go shopping and carrying with his father in the supermarket. When I recited the Great Repentance in front of the altar, I had dreams of eliminating karma.
Master has said that in the Dharma-Ending Age, the compassionate Bodhisattvas have already come from the temple to our homes to bless us. If our family members do not strongly oppose, we must strive to set up a Buddhist altar. This will achieve twice the result with half the effort whether it is doing our homework, scripture combination small houses, or eliminating karma. In addition, we must pay attention to Master’s teachings and not be self-righteous like me. We must try our best to ask Bodhisattvas to open wisdom for our family members and set up a Buddhist altar as soon as possible. Don’t waste precious time and energy, or else regret it!
